A crash course on Greek gods & goddesses

  • 1. Zeus

    The king of the gods and ruler of Mount Olympus, Zeus was the god of the sky, thunder, lightning, and justice. He was often depicted wielding a thunderbolt and was known for his power and authority.

  • 2. Hera

    The queen of the gods and Zeus's wife, Hera was the goddess of marriage, women, and childbirth. She was known for her jealousy and often sought revenge against Zeus's numerous affairs and illegitimate children.

  • 3. Poseidon

    The god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses, Poseidon was one of the twelve Olympian gods. He was often depicted wielding a trident and was revered by sailors and fishermen.

  • 4. Athena

    The goddess of wisdom, courage, and warfare, Athena was also associated with civilization, law, and justice. She was born fully armored from Zeus's forehead and was often depicted with a helmet and shield.

  • 5. Apollo

    The god of the sun, light, music, poetry, and healing, Apollo was one of the most versatile and widely worshiped of the Olympian gods. He was also associated with prophecy and was the patron god of the Delphic Oracle.

  • 6. Artemis

    The goddess of the hunt, wilderness, childbirth, and virginity, Artemis was Apollo's twin sister. She was often depicted with a bow and arrows and was revered as a protector of young women and wild animals.
